20 Seconds is All It Takes
“All I care about is the fingertips” Dr. Oz
Hands connect us to the world. Opening the cupboard to grab a snack, sending a text, holding a door for someone as they walk into a grocery store, cradling a baby for the first time or resting your hand on your mama as she takes her last breath. Life is experienced as it happens through the most used part of our bodies – 🖐 (hands)
Because of the crucial roles hands play in our daily routine, practicing clean and healthy hand care helps prevent the spread of viruses (like COVID-19,) bacteria, and other germs to the people around us. And it is important all days and critical now as everyone practices social distancing or quarantines to prevent the widening spread of the Coronavirus and other viruses and illnesses.
Doctor Oz, a renowned heart surgeon who shares deep medical knowledge to millions every day via the TV and internet since 2003, recently demonstrated how to wash your hands like a surgeon in 20 seconds on the Influencers with Andy Serwer.
- Lather up
- Turkish Twist
- Clean thumbs separately
- Grease the palm – “ideally your NAILS are short”
- Rinse your hands
“You’re not just sitting there counting to twenty, you’re actually working on these.”
CDC Nail Hygiene
The CDC said “Appropriate hand hygiene includes diligently cleaning and trimming fingernails” and lists the following points as steps to take to help prevent the spread of germs:
- Keep nails short and trim them often.
- Scrub the understand of nails with soap and water (or a nail brush) every time you wash your hands.
- Clean any nail grooming tools before use.
- In commercial settings, sterilize nail grooming tools before use.
- Avoid biting or chewing nails.
